Lilly and kelly tell obsession how they got to where they are today!
Well from a young age me and Kellie had been performing in pantomimes/pubs anywhere we could just to try and get noticed
any chance we got we would take it. We dedicated our lives to music as it was the only thing in our lives that would never change and we were not willing to sacrifice that for anything. We just kept practicing and practicing. Mum became ill janruary2009 so we had to dedicate most of out time to try and care for her as she was a single parent at the time. And in April she was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. It was a massive heart ache for both of us but we tried to help as much as possible. Our mother had to have private health care and each consultation was costing up to £250 it was so hard to afford considering now the financial side was in mine and kellie's hands.
We both had part time jobs so clubbing together we were only just managing to afford everything we needed to with sometimes as little as 10p left for ourselves. We didn’t even have to think twice about helping our mum because shes our mum shes always been there for us and its about time we repaid the favor. In December 2008 mum was on the road to recovery and we felt nothing but joy finally we could all start celebrating our lives without any troubles. When mum was well enough to be left on here own me and Kellie decided to audition for X-factor, we had put our singing career on a hold to look after mum but now she was on the mend we decided to go for it. Mums illness made us think about how short life can be and how if you have an opportunity you should go for it. We didn’t know what was around the corner so we had to prepare for all possibilities. We auditioned for X-factor in the summer2009 but unfortunately didn’t make it past boot camp. We were devastated we couldn’t see ourselves doing anything else. We didn’t want to be like your average girl group we wanted to be different and we didn’t want to keep auditioning and getting nowhere. We gave singing a break and decided to put it aside until we were willing to decide what to do next. We carried on our day jobs, Kellie working in Asda and me (lillie) working in shoe zone. The hours were long and tiring and we would be constantly clock watching, what kind of job is that? One we didn’t enjoy is the answer. We decided to book a holiday when mum had fully recovered with the money we had saved from working, we thought it would be a nice break for me, kellie and mum. Just the three of us. We booked a holiday to L.A it was a little out our price budget but it was somewhere mum had always wanted to go and so we booked it.
On December 3rd 2010 we went to L.A. It was lovely to be able to relax, it felt magical not having to worry about anything. We were staying right in the middle of everything which was amazing because everything was in walking distance so no extra costs were having to be spent. While mum went to a spar to relax me and Kellie went out clubbing.. I mean its what teenagers do isn’t it? We had a few drinks and decided for a laugh we would go on the karaoke. Me and kell decided to sing 'chasing cars by snow patrol' not the kind of music you expect in a hip bar but the song was always a childhood favorite so for a laugh we sang it, and sang it we did. 'Its always important to engage with the audience when you sing' was all we were thinking, a few personal tips we learnt through our experience. 'I couldn’t help but notice a man staring at us, it was as if we knew him but we didn’t.' ;The funny thing was I had seen him before but couldn’t put a name to his face'. It was dark and through muffled vision I realized who it was that was staring at us. I was so excited that I had seen a celebrity I started to rush the song, I then paced myself and just tried hardest to hit all the notes. When we finished everyone clapped and was screaming, I felt a warm feeling in my belly and a smile came over both of our faces. Never ever had we got a reaction like we did this time. Kellie was scanning the audience to find the man she has seen but she couldn’t see him, we were then about to leave when we got a pat on the shoulder. It was Simon Cowell. The Simon Cowell. We just stared at him speechless. He just laughed at our reaction and said 'you know girls, I felt everything you had to say in that song and that’s what made it' and it went from there really!
