I choose the title 'obsession' because i thought it best suited the design style i decided to go for. I also wanted an original title that no other magazines had.
Target Audience-Demographic:
I decided for this i would target teenagers aged 16-18 years of age. I decided to go for a female dominated audience but i also wanted it to appeal to males if i was able to achieve this. I thought this would be good because instead of targeting just women if i decided to go for both i would have a wider audience range. I wanted to go for a fashion magazine style included in my music magazine so that is why i thought i would target females because i am female and i would be able to relate myself with the magazine i decided to create. I also thought if i was able to carry it off then i could target males as well, but obviously females would have the biggest attraction. I thought that for my front cover i would have a white British girl or boy featuring on it as it would be a British magazine and i wanted to reflect this in it.
Target Audience- Phychographic:
For this i thought the best approach would be to conduct a questionnaire asking questions such as, 'would you be interested in buying a new fashion magazine?' 'Do you play sports? if so what sports do you play?' 'Whats your favourite song? 'Whats your favourite band?' 'Where do you shop?' ;What's your favourite shop?' 'Favourite Outfit?' just to give me an insight on what my target audience was interested in and then i could include this in my magazine.
Price Point:
I thought that i would price my magazine at '2.00' per issue. I did some research on the Internet and looked around in some shops to help me decide what the rough price of a normal magazine would be. I found out that 'Vogue' was £4.95' i decided this was very expensive for a magazine but worked out that for that magazine you would be paying for the name. I decided not to compare my magazine to this one as they are in completely different leagues and would be to judge a price compared to that. I decided to compare it to 'NME which was (£2.30?)per issue and thought this was more realistic for my type of magazine so i decided to go for the exact same price.
Weekly or monthly:
I decided my magazine would come out once a month as i thought this would be a good length of time to leave it until the next issue. I thought that every two weeks would to frequent and would be harder for me to find ideas to go inside the magazine. I thought that having it come put once a month may make it more popular as there would be a wide rang of things to talk about in each issue.
Content:
For the content of my magazine I chose to mainly focus it on fashion because that's what I'm in to and what i read most about so i feel i could relate this into my magazine. I also wanted to include gossip into it so it had more of a variation. I also thought if i included gossip i could have more catchy coverlines ans this would help for the design of my front cover. I also wanted to include a 'worry page' where people would write in with there problems and they would get answered. I could also include this in a cover line on my front page. I would also include fashion pictures as that is my main idea for my magazine shot a different angles. I would take these pictures from different angles and in different scenes to make it more original. I also thought about including the 'UK top 40' inside so that each month there would be a fresh list of all the up to date songs. I produced a questionnaire so that the answers from that would help me in knowing what else to include in my magazine.
For the style of my magazine i like the black and white approach to it, i think it makes it look more mature and older. I also think when you are doing fashion to have a black background and a colour image makes it stand out more and gives it a good look. I would like the title of my magazine to be in bold so it stand out against the rest of my magazine. I also like the idea of my coverlines being in italics so they are at a different slant to my title.
USP or position in the market:
At the moment there are quite a few fashion magazines such as cosmopolitan, Elle, Glamour, Vogue, In style etc So it is very hard to think of a position in the market where my magazine could fit in. This is one of the reasons I decided to include gossip as well as problem pages so it is a bit of a mix an not just having a magazine full on one topic.
